Earth Cruises - Noya Rao
Since the release of their debut album Icaros on Gondwana Records in 2017, Leeds based electronic-soul quartet, Noya Rao, have been noted as one of the rising talents of the UK Jazz scene.
Noya Rao are vocalist Olivia Bhattacharjee, drummer Matt Davies, bassist Chris Dagger and keys player & producer Tom Henry.
The band draws upon influences old and new, combining throwback soundscapes with contemporary songwriting.
A fixation on the analogue aesthetic, their exploration of analogue synthesisers blended with an acoustic continuum of vocals and drums results in a genre-defying repertory of synth-drenched beat driven music with a vintage aesthetic.
Their second release, Owls EP, was performed worldwide with the band taking their finely-tuned, dramatic live show to top music venues such as Unit (Tokyo), AB (Brussels), Roundhouse (London), Ronnie Scotts (London) and The Sage (Gateshead).
In 2019, they were selected by London’s Jazz Re:freshed team to play in their 2020 SXSW showcase alongside Kokoroko, Steamdown and Richard Spaven. The delayed festival saw the band perform a live set from Abbey Road Studio 2 for the online SXSW 2021 showcase.
In autumn 2020, against the backdrop of the pandemic, they released their EP Stay, receiving extremely positive press and industry support with their song ‘Red’ selected for the BBC Introducing Live Festival.
Having recently been awarded the PPL Momentum Fund, the band are set to release a follow-up EP later this year.
Earth Cruises donates 10% of profit from all shows to carefully selected causes. Noya Rao has chosen Client Earth, an environmental charity that uses the law to create powerful change that protects life on Earth.
